Bergman Fontinalis

Bergman Fontinalis
This fly was NOT created by Ray Bergman, rather it was named FOR Ray Bergman by Phil Armstrong. It is one of a group of flies meant to imitate the fin of the Salvelinus Fontinalis, or brook trout. The fins were an old bait used to catch brookies. This fly is notable for its married tail consisting of 12 separate married wing slips, most of which are only one barb wide. Here is the recipe:

Tail: White, Gray and Orange, Married 2 sections
Body: Alternate Ribs of Gray and Orange Wool
Hackle: Dark Blue-Gray
Wings: White and Gray stripe Married to and Topping Orange mallard
